Learning to swim is something every person should know as you are bound to be near water at some point in your life whether it is fishing, lounging by a pool with friends, or on a boat. Drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death among children ages one to four. Therefore, all children and adults need to learn this life-saving skill! Youth Aquatic Lessons
- No prerequisites required
- Parent accompanies student in water
- Great for the anxious child
- Buchanan Park Recreation Center (BPRC) pool
- No prerequisites required
- Taught in shallow warm water
- BPRC pool
- No prerequisites required
- Taught in shallow water
- BPRC and WRC pools
- Must have passed Beginner Preschool
- Student must perform skills with little instructor assistance
- Must have ability to swim 5 yards with face in the water
- BPRC and WRC pools
- Must have passed Intermediate Preschool
- Student must perform skills in deep water without instructor assistance
- Student must be able to swim 5 body lengths independently with face in deep water
- WRC and BPRC pools

- Class suitable for non-swimmers and those afraid to put their faces in the water
- Class concentrates on improving swimmers comfort level in the water

- No prerequisite skills required
- Taught in varying depths of water
- BPRC and WRC pools
- Student must perform skills in deep water without instructor assistance
- Must be able to swim 10 -15 yards without touching the floor or walls
- Class concentrates on stroke development and stamina improvement
- BPRC and WRC pools
- Must have passed Level 1/2
- Student must perform skills in deep water without instructor assistance
- Must be able to swim 10 yards without touching the floor or walls
- Class concentrates on stroke development

- Must have passed Level 3
- Student must swim strokes for 25 yards without stopping
- Students work on stroke refinement, coordination, and endurance

- For ages 6 and up
- Must have passed Level 4/5 or swim for local swim club
- Class concentrates on improving the four competitive strokes, starts, and turns
