2020 Summer Artful Journey Camps - Cancelled
We Artful Journey is committed to educating students in the language, exploration and process of creating art in a positive environment where anyone who wishes to further their study of the arts can unlock their full potential. These camps are for 5 to 12 year old children. All classes taught by Wade Gardner.
Art Like an Egyptian
The world of ancient Egypt awaits! In this very special camp we will travel back in time to the land of the Egyptians. Pyramids, Cleopatra inspired drawings, Pharaoh’s and special glass jewelry and scarabs will be created in this Egyptian art camp. Location: Miller House.
Under The Sea & Glass Fusion
Our campers will put on the scuba gear and dive right into creating fish, underwater seascapes, sunken treasure and awesome ocean style glass projects. Location: Miller House.
Time Travelers and Clay Journey
Oh, the places we will go. Each day a magical box will appear in our classroom to give us clues as to where are our imaginations and art making will take us for the day. We will travel through time as we explore different cultures and their art. Along the way, we will draw, paint, and create ceramic projects made of clay. Location: Miller House.
Painting, Paper Making & Cake Decorating
It’s back. The ultimate art camp combo. Our popular, one-of-a-kind, paint, paper making, and cake decorating camp!! A mixed media camp that finishes with each student decorating their own cake. Location: Miller House.
Pastel, Collage & Ice Cream
You will love our first ever, pastel, collage, and ice-cream making camp. In another amazing camp, we will create cool shaded oil and chalk pastel projects. With collage, we will use a combination and collection of various things to make a collage horse marionette, and ice cream art. Then, on the last day, we will make ice cream, decorate it with sprinkles and fudge, and treat ourselves to a tasty treat. Location: Miller House.
Paper Making & C.R.A.F.T.
As we wind down the summer, in this exciting camp our students will make their own paper, and create really awesome things. Location: Miller House.
Summer 2020 Jedi/Fencing Camps - Cancelled
These two great camps can be combined or taken separately. These camps are for 8 to 16 year old children.
Jedi Camp - 9 AM to Noon
Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away the Jedi Knights protected the innocent from evildoers. Now is your child’s time to join the Jedi ranks and become heroes! All participants will learn how to train their mind and body to become the greatest heroes of all time.
Jedi trainees will learn how to wield a lightsaber to fight off the evil Sith warriors and save the universe! At this camp, your child will learn how to use the lightsabers in theatrical fighting, participate in strength and agility training using various exercises and games, learn Jedi lore and history and learn how to put together a massive battle.
Fencing Camp - 1 to 4 PM
This camp is designed for participants of all skill levels. Beginner fencers will understand the fundamentals of fencing after one week of practice. Campers will learn the history of fencing, footwork and blade work (parries and ripostes). Coaches will provide level-appropriate instruction for all progressive fencers.
The program will also provide a focused and fun camp for intermediate and progressive saber fencers, offered by truly outstanding coaches. More advanced fencers will refine fundamentals, learn new techniques and develop more effective competitive strategies.
Jedi/Fencing Combo Camp
This is a full day of the two classes listed above. Please bring a lunch. Camp counselors will be there to hang out with the kids. Location: Miller House.
Fantastic Felines Camp Little Veterinarian School® (6 to 10 years)
Fantastic Felines focuses on basic cat care and what it is like to be a veterinarian who cares for kitties. Students will learn how to complete a proper Tip-to-Tail exam, understand cat body language, how to maintain a stress-free environment for cats, and more! Each child will adopt a new stuffed furry friend that will be used throughout the camp. Children will take home their new feline companion, disposable white lab coat, food bowl, handmade cat toys, a graduation diploma, and more! (*No live animals are present during this program). Location: Buchanan Park Rec Center
Little Nursing School/Future Pediatricians School Combo
From Little Medical School® two of our most popular programs are combined into one! Come explore the wonderful world of Nursing and what it is like to be a Doctor for Babies. Students will use role-play, interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games to learn how to take vital signs, all about shots, how nurses interact with other medical professionals, how to do a newborn assessment, proper sleep practice for a baby, diapering, feeding, infant CPR and more! Enrolled students will take home a disposable lab coat, pen light, a deluxe plush baby used throughout the program, and more! Location: Buchanan Park Rec Center
Darling Doggies Camp
Little Veterinarian School® encourages children to explore the exciting world of veterinarians and one of our favorite canine companions, Dogs! Using role-playing, interactive demonstrations, crafts and games, kids learn how to take care of a pet and perform tasks that real veterinarians do in this fun-filled 5-Day camp. Each child will adopt a new stuffed furry friend that will be used throughout the camp. Children will take home their new canine companion, disposable white lab coat, water bowl, dog-friendly treat recipes, a graduation diploma, and more! Topics include: Roles & Responsibilities in the Veterinarian’s Office, Food and Water, Lacerations, Ticks, the Immune System and Vaccinations, and more! Does your child love to play sports? Little Medical School® - Sports Medicine teaches students about basic prevention and treatment of the most common sports injuries such as sprains, strains and athlete’s foot, make a model of a hand with tendons and ligaments, perform a simulated Tommy John surgery, and more! Enrolled students will take home a disposable lab coat, reflex hammer, dental tool, multiple models, worksheets, and more! Location: Buchanan Park Rec Center
Wilderness Medicine Camp Little Medical School®
Wilderness Medicine focuses on some of the most common outdoor emergencies and how to handle them with confidence. Come explore with us as we role-play and learn about water safety, tourniquets & broken bones, snake bites, the dangers of hypothermia, weather-related emergencies, and more! Each child will take home a disposable white lab coat, a 5-in-1 safety compass, survival blanket, ACE bandage and other things to start a home Wilderness Safety kit. Location: Miller House
Mad Science delivers a unique, hands-on science experiences for children that are as entertaining as they are educational. For ages 6 to 11.
JeffCo School Fall Break is October 15 and 16, 2020. We are offering the following classes during Fall Break.
Underground Explorers - History Hunters
It's time to dig for dinosaurs! We put on our paleontology hats and go looking for historical treasure. We learn the ins-and-outs of a paleontological dig and create our own 3D fossils.
Underground Explorers - Buried Stories
We study ancient civilizations! We learn about Pompeii and recreate the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We discover how certain conditions can preserve objects and help us better understand ancient cultures and historical events.
Underground Explorers - Ancient Artifacts
We unravel time! We discover how to date objects, using techniques like carbon dating and stratigraphy. We use a metal detector to find buried coins, and then use the skills we've learned to restore them to their former glory, and figure out where they came from!
Underground Explorers - Pieces of Our Past
Investigate artifacts! We learn about patterns of wear, and hypothesize about the use of unfamiliar items. We get to decorate a clay pot, and use the pattern to help us reconstruct fragments of a broken pot.
Join us for yoga, climbing and stand up paddle boarding and much more during this fun week of Boot Camp. These camps are for girls ages 12 to 14.
Leadership Boot Camp
Three days will be at the Buchanan Recreation Center and two days will be offsite (informed by instructor prior to camp). Dress in comfortable clothing - no jeans or flip flops. Bring water bottle and snack. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center.
Students will develop a stronger sense of imagination, literacy, expression and communication through on camera conversations that reinforce a positive self-image. Please note: there is an hour between the two camps so if students sign up for both, students will not be supervised from Noon to 1 PM. These camps are for kids age 6 to 12 years old.
Talk to the Camera - Youth Tuber (6 to 10 years)
Finally, a class that gives kids the opportunity to gain the skill set, knowledge, and confidence to celebrate their individuality through YouTube video creation. Using a STEAM-based learning approach, students develop their digital well-being with an awareness for online safety. Location: Wulf Recreation Center.
Talk to the Camera - Youth Tuber Plus (9 to 12 years)
Students explore their creative potential - making YouTube videos that stand-out! Using a STEAM-based learning approach, students embrace their individuality, develop their editing skills and become compelling content creators who advance their digital well-being responsibly with an awareness for online safety. Location: Wulf Recreation Center.
Super Heroes and Villains Movie Magic ( 6 to 13 years)
KAPOW! BANG! ZOINK! Kids create their own live-action movie for an added punch. In Super Heroes and Villains Movie Magic, young filmmakers work together, using a project-based learning approach to make a movie! Students actively engage in all aspects of a professional film set. They become directors, film crew and actors - honing their craft, building their critical thinking skills and gaining a sense of ownership.
Summer 2020 Tech Academy Camps - Cancelled
Tech Academy provides project-based technology education classes. All classes are at the Miller House next to Buchanan Park Rec Center.
Bring a USB drive, snacks, lunch, and drink each day to class.
Java Game Coding (4th through 9th grade)
New Class! Students working on individual computers will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language, while learning to code their text-based RPG (Role-Playing Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer operating system (text editing and understanding directory structures) and keyboarding is required.
Intro to Video Game Design Nintendo Character (Kindergarten through 3rd grade)
New Class! Create YOUR OWN VIDEO GAME! Love video games? Students as young as five years old can create their own platform video games in this cool class! Choose your storyline with popular Nintendo characters as your stars; add challenges and levels of difficulty, then share your game by email or post it on the web to challenge family and friends. Now 5 to 8-year-olds can practice math, logic, and programming and put their video game talents to work! The game will be in an animated Flash format, viewable in most internet browsers.
Multiplayer Minecraft: World Builders (1st through 5th grade)
New Class! Unleash your creativity as you work collaboratively! Create your own world with four unique, themed quadrants. Build different biomes or base a section on your favorite movie or video game! Meld your quadrants together with bridges, and separate them with moats of water, lava, or even the void! Students will get a copy of the world map to take home and expand on. We will be using the PC/Java Edition of Minecraft.
Star Wars Movie Making (1st through 5th grade)
From a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars comes to life! Work on a stop-motion animated LEGO Star Wars movie. Star Wars action figures, LEGOs, and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all the technical details, including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, doing stop-motion animation and digital editing, and adding finishing touches like special effects and transitions to the movie. In this exciting, hands-on class, our instructors will take your student through the entire digital filmmaking process from start to finish using the Frames Software. Student groups’ final projects will be emailed to parents, or students may bring a USB jump drive on the last day for instant access.
Robotic Builders Gamer Bots (1st through 5th grade)
Let the Games begin! Designed by the experts at M.I.T., LEGO WeDo Robotics’ unique system teaches students about simple machines, engineering, programming, and so much more. Students will be taught foundational building and introduced to programming concepts with learning about the Sensors, Motors, and Special Technics components. Working in small teams, students will build and program smart robots, based on popular games: Angry Birds, Chutes and Ladder, Hockey, Just Dance, Pinball, Duck Hunt and more!
All New Java Minecraft Modding (3rd through 7th grade)
Updated Class! Dig deeper into the Minecraft with this Minecraft Modding class! Design custom blocks, items, and tools! Learn to mod Minecraft using Java and Eclipse. Students should be comfortable with keyboarding, and of course playing Minecraft! At the end of class take home your Mods to share with family and friends.
Play-Well provides an opportunity for creative expression, fosters a greater appreciation of how things work, builds problem-solving skills and encourages inquisitiveness, self-reliance and self-confidence.
Level-Up Engineering using LEGO
Design and engineer your favorite virtual gaming elements in the physical world with LEGO Materials and NO SCREENS. Run and hop to avoid Piranha plants with the Super Mario Brothers, help defeat the Ender Dragon in the world of Minecraft, and expand your favorite Pokédex as you collect your favorite Pokémon. Be your favorite video game character while learning how the world works through STEM concepts!
